Flowpack
What is flow packaging?
In flow pack technology, first of all, a tube is made from flat polypropylene sheet. This is then sealed on the bottom. The flow pack machine slides the product to be packaged into the wrapper that is created. The wrapper is then sealed and cut at the front and back. Result: a packaging with three sealed edges; an end-to-end seal at the top and bottom, and a lengthwise seal on the back of the packaging.
The moulding box
The sheet/foil is folded around the product in the moulding box. The moulding box is the only tooling (special part) that is necessary for every flow pack order. Its shape depends on the width and height of the product.
The cutter
A rotating cutter cuts off the sheet/foil at the top and bottom. For packaging with a suspension hole in the upper seal, this cutter is equipped with a hollow Eurolock.
Vertical and horizontal flow pack machines
Vertical flow pack machines drop the product vertically into the moulding box. They are mainly used to package granular products or powders.
Horizontal flow pack machines slide the product horizontally into the moulding box.
Advantages of using flow packs
- low tooling cost;
- relatively high production speed (flow packing is a continuous packaging process);
- a single packaging material;
- possibility of using relatively little and thin material.
